Our History
Our Foundation
Avtech Engineering was founded by Geoff Mullet in 1979.
Geoff's goal was to take on challenging machining projects many thought were impossible. Having a focus on efficiency meant Avtech succeeded in its infancy and paved the way for our company which has spanned more than 40 years.
Investing in Technology
Through the 1980's and 1990's Avtech sourced the latest equipment in computer numerical control machining. Looking back at these times, they were crucial in Avtech's coming of age, to push for the cutting edge, to achieve production efficiency. In this way, Avtech placed itself ahead of the competition, forming a solid foundation under Geoff's leadership.
New General Manager
In 2002, Avtech was on the lookout for a general manager, which led to Steve Delfos (right in picture) accepting the position. Steve had previously championed another company through a change from mass production to smaller volumes as the market changed.
From 2002 the next 3 years, Avtech underwent a similar transformation, and that success enabled the business to grow considerably.
In 2005, Steve became a partner in Avtech, and in 2007, he bought the business outright becoming the Managing Director.
Steve's Continued Leadership
With Steve leading Avtech through the 2000's, investment was made further in ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015 accreditation and in 2018 included the ISO 45001:2018.
With Steve's guidance, he successfully drove Avtech into a new era of profitability, collecting notable awards along the way.
In 2018, AvTech Engineering was nominated for the 2018 Swan Business Awards in the Category for Best Trade Service – Large Business and were successful in winning this category.
Leaps and Bounds
Having completed a huge workshop extension, Steve continued to invest more than $1.5 million in the latest CNC technology. Avtech was now equiped with CNC Wire Cutting, 4 & 5 axis machines and the latest software to support them.
Steve had placed AvTech at the front of the pack, the company was now well placed to make anyones project a reality.
AvTech now has twice the floor space in our factory thanks to Steve's vision for the company's future making Avtech a "One Stop Shop".
From One Family to Another
In 2022, a new chapter began for Avtech Engineering as its Managing Director, Steve Delfos, made the decision to retire. He chose to devote his time to his family and competitive sailing on his boat, the impressive "Minke," proudly displaying the AvTech colours.
With this transition, Steve entrusted the future of AvTech to its new custodians, Vuemont Group, a family-owned holdings company.
Moving forward, Avtech is committed to upholding its rich history and delivering top-notch service to ensure its continued success.
